Every song is a string of chords. Hearing their quality is how you work out a progression by ear, write a bass line under it, or find the voicing that makes a pad sit right.
Level 1 plays four triads note by note before they sound together, level 2 adds the sus4, level 3 the sus2 and inversions, level 4 the seventh chords, and level 5 all eleven in any inversion. The right chord scores 10 points; from level 4, the same triad underneath scores 5 (a major for a major 7th). Five levels of five questions and four lives.

Major: bright and settled.
Minor: darker, the same notes with a lower middle.
Diminished: tight and tense, it wants to move.
Augmented: stretched and floating, like a question.
Sus: no third: open, waiting to resolve.
Dominant 7th: bluesy, pulls home to the chord a fifth below.
