One of eight filters is on the loop. Switch it on and off, listen to what changes, then pick its shape on the screen.

what you train.

Every EQ and synth is built from the same handful of filter shapes. Knowing them by ear tells you which tool to reach for: a high pass to clean up mud, a shelf to brighten without harshness, a notch to remove one ringing note.

Eight filters, five levels of five questions and four lives. The right shape scores 10 points, a wrong one costs a life. Shelves and peaks start at 12 dB and fall to 6 dB at the last level, and the number of times you can switch the filter off to compare drops at each level.

High pass: the bottom goes: thinner, no weight.

Low pass: the top goes: muffled, behind a wall.

Band pass: both ends go: a telephone or a small radio.

Peaking: one band jumps forward.

Notch: one band disappears, the rest stays whole.

Shelves: the whole bottom or the whole top gets louder or quieter.

All pass: only the phase moves: on one channel, it sounds like nothing changed.
