hear the highest ratio.
Three versions of the loop go through the same compressor with three different ratios. Listen to each and pick the one with the highest.

what you train.
The ratio says how hard a compressor pushes back once the signal passes the threshold. A low ratio thickens, a high one flattens: telling them apart is the base of every compression move.
The threshold is −20 dB, the attack 0 ms, the release 250 ms. The ratios are drawn from 2:1 to 20:1. The right version scores 10 points, a wrong one costs a life.
Loudest hits: listen to the drums: a high ratio holds them down.
Level drop: there is no makeup gain: the hardest squeeze sounds quieter.
Short loops: drum and bass and rock show it best.
